I gave KDE a .. 4th chance!

January 20, 2008

Yes this time I actually tried to customize it. Eventually I got it to my satisfaction. I will still be fine tuning it but here’s the screenshot of it.
KDE is kinda hard to get setup decently but after a while of setting up it’s worth it. Also, The default KDE-Menu makes no sense. But then again, neither does the Fluxbox menu

The Vista theme for XP!!

January 19, 2008

This theme just rules. It covers everything. It makes your XP like vista. Login menu, boot image, you name it!. Here’s a screenshot. Here’s where you can download it

My Fluxbox Guide! -Redone

January 16, 2008

I decided my old Fluxbox guide wasn’t very good (in fact the only reason it’s in the tutorials and tips section is because it was moved). My new one has  not been approved so I don’t have a link to it. I will have one ASAP

UPDATE: It’s been approved! Here it is

My trip with a Nintendo Wii

January 13, 2008

I said I’d write about it in my last entry. So here it is.

If I was a critic scoring the Wii I’d give it a 9.5/10. I literally played the tennis game for 5 hours straight. I’ve only tried the tennis and the bowling game. Both were fun as hell but I thought tennis was better. The Wii-Remotes rule and the new way to interact with a game console makes it so much funner. The one thing that I didn’t like was how hard it was to press buttons (on the screen, not on the remote). They should’ve just included a keypad and an enter key to do this (or maybe it does, I didn’t really pay attention to what the buttons were because tennis only requires the a key and bowling only requires the b key). It was hard at first to get used to the Wii-Remote but once you get past that it’s a blast to play

Conclusion: Except for the button-thing I mentioned, the Wii is a blast to play and I recommend it to most people that don’t play action games (an FPS would be kinda hard to play on the Wii-Mote; or maybe it would make it easier to swing your gun around?)

My first time trying a Mac

January 12, 2008

OK so yesterday I tried a mac (at my aunt’s friend’s house) It didn’t impress me much. This is an imac that I tried. And I  strongly disagree with their statement that “the mac is the “best” [consumer] computer available.” I have to admit I only tried ichat, photo booth, Safari, and I messed around a little but that was it. Here’s what I liked about the mac:

The screen was big

The built in webcam

PhotoBooth (sort of, elaboration below)

Here’s what I didn’t like about the mac:

The  Keyboard (it was way too  small)

The Mouse (WTF? I can  barely double click because I have to push the mouse literally (forward))

Photobooth (it was basically just an image warper (I could just apply the effects in GIMP)

Safari (it gives the impression that it’s a bloated piece of crap)

The universal menu bar thingy (I like my options where I’m looking, at the window)

The AWN-like bar thingy (Wow. How cluttered)

The fact that all the options for the peripherals are on the back

I can’t take it apart for repairs (You have to send it to apple)

Not being able to right click

It’s nowhere as near as flexible as linux is (but windows isn’t either, I suppose)

and more

Summary : basically, the fact that it looked complete impressed me, but otherwise it’s mediocre and the fact that I can outpace it on my computer with an AMD Sempron 3100+ w/ 512MB of RAM VS. Intel Core 2 duo w/ 2 or 4 GB RAM makes it evermore pathetic

Also, they had a Wii. Now that impressed me. will write about later

Wow…this book is deep

January 10, 2008

Well this book I’m reading (which I’m almost finished with) is emotional. I can’t really describe it in detail here. So go here to find it.

SNOW SUCKS!

January 8, 2008

I hate snow. I never really saw how skiing or snowboarding was fun. The only thing that I really like to do in the snow is to sled, but it’s no more fun because I hate walking up the hill now (I have less energy than when I was a little kid.) Today during lunch break playing football with my friends (I never got why they liked to play football in the snow) I could’ve sworn I got frostbite but I didn’t (thank god). Of course just my luck, it’s slated to snow up to 2 feet in my area! NOO!!!!!!!!! Oh well, at least school will be late (or cancelled, but I don’t know, my school wouldn’t cancel if it was a blizzard!).
Conclusion: I hate snow

Opera is Great!

January 6, 2008

Have you tried Opera yet? I love it. If you’re having problems with flash just download this package and install.
My favorite opera features are:
*mouse gestures
*searching from the address bar (I’m aware you can do this in firefox but you can only search from google)
*widgets
*speed-dial (just open a new tab)
and more.

You can get the latest stable version here
You can get the latest beta version here

Does my monitor suck?

January 2, 2008

well I made a new (rather, edited an old) fluxbox theme and people keep telling me the bottom bar is pink yet it looks light purple to me! Well there goes my glory of making themes. Now I have no idea what color my color scheme is! There’s currently a discussion of this on ubuntu forums going on here. Well apparently I should get an LCD

Happy New Year!

January 1, 2008

Yet another year. w00t! I can’t believe it’s  2008 already. I remember those Mor (A furniture store) commercials that always would (and still do) say “don’t pay ’til 2005!”. It usually said these about 3 years before you apparently had to pay. Well i think lots of people are gonna have to pay for their furniture from ’05!
